Cool bike gear…and win some of your own!
When cycling, helmets are a must – that goes without saying. But after you pass the “function” part that is involved in riding a bike – there are plenty of “optional gear” choices to consider that can further customize your cycling experience. We stumbled upon some cool bike gear that offers the potential to enhance your next bike ride, in fun and safe ways! Keep reading and comment to win a Bell True Fit helmet of your own!
Another accessory that provides both fashion and function is called RoadID – a stylish and durable bracelet that provides identifying information in the event of an accident while you are out cycling. It’s simple — if you can’t speak for yourself, your Road ID can do it for you. RoadID can be worn on your wrist, your ankle, or attached to your shoe and provides an easy solution to ensure you have ID, and even allergy or emergency contact information with you.
Bred on the backs of bike messengers in the city streets of San Francisco, TimBuk2 offers many products to help you store what you need while riding your bike. Messenger bags, bike seat packs, and other accessories can be custom designed, creating good looking and durable bags while you are on the go.
And to take it up another notch, makers of wearable digital cameras for sports – GoPro – offer a small video camera that can mount directly to your helmet. Imagine the cool vantage point you can achieve as you video your cycling adventures. Capture photos or videos of an incredible skyline, wildlife, your cycling group, or a challenging incline.
We could go on… we haven’t yet mentioned the Blackburn cycling computers or the Livestrong wristbands that benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Are you already using some of these products? Do you have other favorite gear and accessories? Share with us your favorite bike gear in the comments for a chance to win a Bell True Fit helmet of your choice! Winner will be selected at random from the comments listed and notified on or around June 5.

I the Bell True Fit Helmet which I have no complaints about and it offers a snug non throbbing fit to my head and I wear the RoadID and Support the Lance Armstrong Foundation by wearing the Yellow wrist bands and raising money for the cause. I also use a Polar f4 Hart Rate Monitor to help me reach my goals in my selected training zones.I use a Cateye Cycle computer that tracks my speed and Distance and just recently purchased the GoPro Helmet cam to take with me on my Team In Training Cycle Event in Tahoe on June 7th 2009. The GoPro has excellent video quality but poor sound quality. Considering that I use it on my Bike the wind makes a lot of noise so I plan on adding music anyways for my video to be more exciting to watch. My Favorite item I use is the GOPro Helmet cam and my RoadID

I’m a teacher and I am envious of my colleagues’ timbuk2 bags!
I’m new to the biking world and I’m planning on becoming a bike commuter when school/teaching starts in the fall! I’m glad I found your blog and I hope I can get great advice for “must have” gear!

I coordinate a safety coalition and am so glad you figured out how to make helmets easier to use. I cringe when I see kids on bikes b/c either they aren’t wearing helmets or they are wearing them incorrectly–unbuckled, backwards, pushed back or just too loose.
I’m in the market for a bike to commute to work and to just ride in the neighborhood and on greenways. I don’t have any of these accessories yet, but will look for them. Thanks for the info.
