Biking for kids equals running time for mommy!
Our guest post today is from mommy blogger Lisa (a.k.a. Workout Mommy):
One of my biggest struggles since having two children was finding the time for running workouts. As the boys have grown older, they have begun to resist the double jogging stroller and left me wondering if I will ever get a chance for a long run or track workout again.
I decided one day it was time to be creative. I loaded up the boys and their bikes and we headed up to the local track. After outfitting them in their biking gear (helmets, elbow pads, etc.) I explained to them that this was a game to see who could go the fastest and do the most “circles”. My oldest (aka: Mr. Competitive) decided this was the greatest invention since sliced bread and was very determined to be the “winner”. My youngest just likes to follow him wherever he goes, so I knew at this point I was going to be the winner of a fantastic solid workout!
The boys took off (one on a tiny bike, the other on a tricycle) and I was off and running behind them. I managed to get in 8 laps with almost no interruptions. It was wonderful! My kids had a blast and we were all exhausted. The track is the perfect venue for them to ride their bikes because there is no worry of traffic and I can literally run laps around them.
So if you are wondering how to squeeze in a solid workout with kids in tow, check your local high school or middle schools for a track.
You run.
They bike.
and everyone has fun!

I do this on occasion….. but only around our neighborhood! I never thought of the high school track a mile or so away!!!!! Does anyone ever care that you are on the track? You know…. like a really mean principal?????

Jennifer–I mainly do this during the summer but during the school year I limit my track time to before or after school. I am still afraid of principals!
